Dear colleagues:

Advanced registration for the 2007 AAAAI Annual Meeting closes on January 24, so if you have not yet registered, I urge you to do so. With leadership from Wes Burks and input from hundreds of AAAAI members, the 2007 Annual Meeting is shaping up as a very special scientific and social occasion. (It is unequivocally the premier allergy/immunology meeting in the world, and it would be foolish to miss it!) Although many people have input, the Interest Sections play a very important role in the program.

Highlights this year include the Keynote Session on Saturday with Dr. Tony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), entitled, "Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases: The Perpetual Challenge to Global Health." In addition, we have a special symposium on Monday afternoon on the new NAEPP asthma guidelines, as well as several other sessions on the guidelines. The four Plenary Sessions include Saturday’s session on the "Immunopathogenesis of Asthma," and the Sunday morning Presidential Plenary Session on "Allergen Exposure and Chronic Allergic Disease."

The posters are placed (physically and in timing) next to the Plenary Sessions, which will ensure that they continue to play a prominent role in the meeting. In addition, a featured poster session and reception will take place Sunday, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., in the Sails Pavilion of the San Diego Convention Center. Each Interest Section has selected outstanding posters to highlight. The reception follows the model of the very successful Science & Surf reception in 2006.

Although there is a lot going on, I think the social highlight will be the ART Benefit on Saturday evening. The program of "Academy Idol," organized by Michael and Carole Schatz with help from friends in San Diego, will be a pleasure. I look forward to seeing everyone there.
