Dear colleagues:
The AAAAI is preparing to launch its first large-scale public education outreach effort in collaboration with Revelocity, a NASCAR Busch Series race team. At first glance the connection between us may appear incongruous. However, this relationship allows us to reach a fan base of 90 million people (one in three adults), many of whom suffer from allergies and asthma. We will be leveraging the sport to increase the visibility of our specialty and our practices, as well as striving to reach our strategic goal of “strengthening the AAAAI’s position as the public’s primary source of information for allergy/immunology.”
Through this initiative, “Improving Lives at Every Turn,” AAAAI members will have the chance to promote their local practices, our specialty, and distribute consumer information to the nearly 200,000 fans who visit track-side exhibits at each venue. Specifically, AAAAI members on the regional, state and local levels will have access to the media, AAAAI track-side exhibits, and promotional opportunities with driver- and team-sponsored events. Given the 75% loyalty factor associated with NASCAR sponsors and promoters, allergy and asthma sufferers will be driven to our Web site to seek information and help from a specialist. We will also look for fund raising opportunities for ART around these events.
I will serve as the AAAAI spokesperson and honorary Revelocity crew chief at the Nextel Cup, Busch, and monster truck combined NASCAR event on May 4, in Richmond, VA. I am looking forward to this event and our collaboration with team Revelocity to promote our members and specialty. My only disappointment is that I have been told my microphone won’t work … something about them actually wanting to win the race!
We thank our partnering team, Revelocity NASCAR Busch Series, for underwriting the majority of costs associated with this initiative.
Thomas B. Casale, MD, FAAAAI
AAAAI President
