Major Goals of Training Program
To offer residents an up-to-date knowledge of immunology and its relationship to health and disease. Knowledge and concepts of the basic sciences, especially genetics, physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology as it relates to immunology is emphasized. Our program stresses both research as well as providing the residents with the practical features of doing a sound allergic immunologic workup and treating these patients in a safe and medically acceptable fashion. Trainees are expected to present their results of the investigation at national meetings and in peer-reviewed publications. The Asthma and Allergy Program is located on the main campus of the University of Minnesota, allowing us to collaborate not only with members of the Medical School, including other sections of immunology, but also with other disciplines such as Ecology, Environmental Health, Public Health and Mechanical Engineering. Trainees are encouraged to take university graduate level courses in the areas of their interest.
