Membership: How Do I Become A Member?

Member:
Physicians (MD or DO) who have completed an accredited allergy/immunology training program are invited to join the AAAAI. Equivalent degrees (PhD, DDS, DVM) may also qualify for membership.

International Member:
These are physicians who live outside the United States, Canada or U.S. possessions, such as Puerto Rico.

Following are some tips for filling out your membership application:

  • Answer all questions completely. If a question does not apply, please enter"none."
  • Include your Curriculum Vitae, copies of Board Certificates and list of publications (if applicable).
  • List the AAAAI meetings you have attended in the past 3 years. Also list other allergy or immunology conferences or CME activities you participated in during the last 3 years.
  • Describe teaching responsibilities and scope (i.e. staff, students, nurses, PA's, etc.). List CME courses taught, conferences given or evidence of providing continuing education or public education in topics of allergy or immunology.  List research interests and publications.
  • You and your Chief Sponsor must sign the application.
  • Send a non-refundable $35 application processing fee with your application for Membership and International Membership. (The application fee does not apply to the total amount of dues owed.)

Sponsorship:

  • Three sponsor letters are needed.
  • You must have a Chief Sponsor for your category of membership who is a FELLOW of the AAAAI.
  • Only one sponsor may be associated with your current practice.
  • One letter must be from your Program Director or the Chief of Staff where you are now practicing.
  • You are responsible for requesting sponsor letters and making sure they are sent to the AAAAI executive office.
  • The sponsor's reference letter should be on professional letterhead and include:
    • Date
    • Name of applicant
    • Length of time the sponsor has known the applicant
    • Nature of their professional relationship, and professional ability
    • Character and ethical standing
    • Applicant's special interest in allergy, asthma and immunology
    • General statement why you recommend, or do not recommend, applicant for membership.

Membership Process:

  • The Credentials Committee reviews all applications. The applications are not forwarded until they are complete (all questions answered, sponsorship letters, C.V., Board Certificates, list of publications and appropriate processing fee are received).
  • If an application is approved by the Credentials Committee, it is sent to the Board of Directors with a recommendation for approval.
  • Once approved by the Board of Directors, it is then voted on by the Fellows of the AAAAI at the Annual Meeting.

Note: Incomplete applications will be kept on file for one (1) year only. If they are not completed within on year of receipt, the application will be discarded.

Annual Dues
Annual dues for each membership category are as follows:

Fellows & Member  $350
International Fellow & Member $263
In-Training Members do not pay dues until they have completed their training program as follows:
  First year after graduating $0
  Second year out of program $125
  Third and subsequent years $350
